Ferry Corsten – Twice in a Blue Moon
Posted on 28. Nov, 2008 by Damian.

Ferry Corsten’s changed his game this year – he might have been the man who introduced electro influences into trance back in 2003 with Punk, but on this album he’s coming back to his roots, focussing his sound inwards to lose the outside influences that made his last album, 2006’s L.E.F, so diverse. So if you’re a trance purist, this should be something for you. Otherwise…well, he had Guru from Gangstarr on L.E.F
Anyway, Twice In A Blue Moon’s first single – and inevitable first hit – is Radio Crash; big bass-lines, uplifting sounds, catchy melody… it’s all there. And title-track Twice In A Blue Moon is also a piece of straight-forward, uplifiting trance, but there are still flashes of electro on Brain Box, plus some more vocal cuts too – like Black Velvet and Made Of Love. And speaking of things that are made of love, we can’t forget Gabriella’s Sky, Ferry’s ode to his new daughter. Ahhhh… bless him.
Twice In A Blue Moon track-listing:
1. Shelter Me
2. Black Velvet
3. We Belong
4. Gabriella’s Sky
5. Made Of Love
6. Radio Crash
7. Twice In A Blue Moon
8. Feel You
9. Life
10. Brain Box
11. Shanti
12. Visions Of Blue

Pre-order Deadmau5 sample CD for producers
Posted on 28. Nov, 2008 by Damian.
Xfer Records is a label started by Deadmau5 and his longtime friend and studio accomplice Steve Duda for their collaborations, such as BSOD, and WTF? with Tommy Lee and DJ Aero.
Their latest CD XFRSCD01 offering is not a music CD, but rather a sample CD-ROM for music producers, featuring a plethora of WAV loops and one-shots, ready to be loaded in to any popular music-making software.
This CD-ROM Features 555 Megabytes of WAV sample content:
336 Loops at 128 BPM
425 Kick Drums
229 Clap sounds
1500+ percussive sounds
322 Hihats,
158 Snare drums
100+ Cymbal and Cymbal-effect sounds
227 synth/tonal sounds composed and engineered by Duda and the mau5 themselves.
An extensive amount of gear was used for the CD-including circuit-bent and analogue drum machines, vintage analogue synths such as Moog and Arp, original acoustic drums and other sounds recorded in various professional studios. A variety of digital sound sources were used as well for creating new sounds, such as FFT synthesis, additive/subtractive synthesis, even custom DSP routines coded by Steve Duda in C++.
“Despite the large amount of sample CDs out there, we saw a niche for one geared towards building blocks of EDM with a twist – this one is royalty-free, so it can be used in original productions with no fear of legal repercussions from the original artists who often are sampled on other CD libraries”, says Steve. “We tried to make an assortment featuring a variety of sound sources, which aren’t overproduced so they can fit into a production workflow without stamping their own flavor on a mix and being overly-recognizable”.
One thing for certain, the sounds of the XFER Sample CD will be featured on dance tracks for decades to come.

Michel De Hey – Finally Man/We’re Fucking Hi EP
Posted on 25. Nov, 2008 by INHead-Kay.

Michel De Hey is back with a banger of a release that will surely be destroying dancefloors over the forthcoming weeks.
‘Finally Man’ is a typical De Hey groovy techno track. It kicks off on a well worked bassline and slowly builds up the funk factor. Smooth eclectic efx fade in from the back, while the bassline maintains a solid energy flow. Around the 1:15 mark eerie noises combine blissfully with the ongoing efx to add layers to the track. The track officially takes the dancers into taboo zone on the 2 minute mark when the bassline suddenly reverses and then bursts out into energy like a fight scene from a star wars movie! The track continues to build solid momentum with lovely random sounds. On the fourth minute mark the track gains even more energy, and to add to the frenzy a freakishly distorted church paino sound suddenly appears to quickly delay and compress the flow before its released again on 4:50 mark when the track picks the dancers from their frenzy and takes them into a totally new dimension. Rating: 9.2/10
‘We’re Fucking Hi’ kicks off on a totally different vibe. A low kick combines with a small clap and random synths sounds that appear here and there. After 32 measures, weird whistling sounds fade in from the back that make you literarily look around you thinking someone is around you. The flow keeps building until the 2 minute mark when all hell is let loose. Enter De Hey’s signature dark sound with the same synth foundation from the start and an exquisitely worked bassline, all the way around the 2:46 minute mark when some cool vocals, lovely conga sounds and out of this work dreamy pads continue to build. Suddenly on the 3.18 mark the track goes into chill mode before bursting into a charade of groovy sounds and amazingly crafted basslines. The track maintains the energy flow and the lovely dreamy pads with freaky synths that engulf the track and take you into a journey into the depth of your soul. On the 5:15 mark for around 10 seconds De Hey experiments with the strangest synths noise you can comprehend before bursting the track back into life and making you move uncontrollably. Rating: 9.6/10
What a wonderful release from the Dutch institution that is Michel De Hey who has been cracking dancefloors apart since 1986. Its no wonder that Satoshi Tomiie said: “Feeling both tunes, will play out for sure”! Grab these tracks while their hot!

Tiesto Creates Remix For Game Developer ATARI
Posted on 21. Nov, 2008 by Damian.
Bearing Tiësto’s signature epic sound, the remarkable remix for the game “Alone in the Dark Inferno” of Oliver’s Deriviere Bulgarian choir composition is said to “take the original soundtrack to the heart of the dance floor in an driving remix which bears the unmistakable hallmarks of Tiësto’s enormous sound: maximum euphoric and 100% dance floor orientated. “The original soundtrack is a great composition with a lot of ingredients which fit perfectly in the remix,” said Tiësto. “It was the first time for me to produce a remix for a videogame and therefore a great challenge, I enjoyed it a lot!.” Tiësto entered the video game market a few months ago after the launch of Streamline Records and Streamline Sounds, which aim to offer up and coming talents the chance to expose their music in the video game industry.
The remix and official video are now available worldwide on CD single, digital download and limited edition 12″ picture disc through retailers worldwide.

NYC Techno Troopers – Biatch Corp
Posted on 20. Nov, 2008 by Damian.
The electronic music underground scene in New York City isn’t thriving, but there are signs of life beneath the streets. Minimoo are one crew who have managed to gain the respect of the international techno community in a relatively short space of time, and despite their catastrophic Minitek festival in the summer, Minimoo continues to go from strength to strength.
Biatch Corp are also another gang who deserve respect for bringing cutting-edge techno artists to NYC and as you can see from this promo video, Biatch Crop have now set up their own record label, Biatch Corp Recordings. Good for them. Karaskilla ‘Su Merced El Pimp’ is the label’s first release, and with remixes from Perc and Jussi-Pekka the single is sure to get some attention.
Let’s hope this first release will lead to more quality techno music from Biatch Corp.

Prodigy’s UK tour sells out in 1 hour
Posted on 20. Nov, 2008 by Damian.
The hype is building around The Prodigy’s new LP ‘Invaders Must Die’, penciled for a March 2009 release – their December UK tour sold out in just one hour.
With all the original band members back together again in the studio, many are expecting their new album to be a return to the glory of their past, which included 16 million album sales and the title of ‘most successful dance band of all time’.
Tickets were always going to go fast for their December UK tour, but one hour is astonishing for a band that really has done anything too exciting since 1997.
The band will do a bigger tour in April 2009, and with Dizzie Rascal on warm up duty for all the dates you can bet a similar ticket rush.
Clearly there’s still a lot of fans of The Prodigy out there, so fingers crossed ‘Invaders Must Die’ lives up to the hype. [...]
