Evil Robot EP3
Posted on 29. Aug, 2008 by Damian.
New tracks made by Jonas Steur under his Evil Robot alias out today on beatport. The EP includes ‘EP3‘, ‘Overboard Funky‘ and ‘Voodoo Woodoo‘. He’s still up to his grand scheme of massacring innocent dancefloors world-wide and I love it! EP3 begins with a simple kick line, which is subsequently joined by a hi-hat and a soft click track. A groovy bassline starts a-playin’, as it builds in energy and edge. That rumbling bassline is joined with a harmonizing, higher part. We get a split second of silence to accommodate a sudden build. Quite a solid track. Voodoo Woodoo is more techier, but really good and Overboard Funky.. well similar to it’s title it’s funky tech-house?

Kasper Bjorke feat. The Pierces – Doesn’t Matter (Remixes)
Posted on 29. Aug, 2008 by Damian.
Kasper Bjorke returns with another solid single ‘Doesn’t Matter‘ out today on beatport featuring Tomboy on the original mix! On remix duties we get Trentemoller whose remix is surprisingly un-beat-driven, very epic and moody which would be my favorite, Jack Schidt with a dirty electro remix, the Juan Maclean remix who transform ‘Doesn’t Matter’ into a proper DFA-style dancefloor bomb plus another two remixes which I haven’t heard yet by Thugfucker and Kasper Bjorke.

Is this the future of DJing?
Posted on 27. Aug, 2008 by Damian.
Feast your eyes on the world’s first touch-screen decks. No, these aren’t the product of a major corporation like Vestax or Technics, they are in fact the brainchild of a student at Dundee University (Dundee, Scotland) studying innovative product design. For his final year project he’s created a touch screen turntable that lets DJ’s loop, sample and scratch wave forms just as you would a record. Someone certainly has been eating their haggis, because this is a work of genius. Most students have the same idea at the same points in their lives: “I’ll do something for my final year that I can use to get me a job”.
It usually ends up like rubbish, right?
Not Scott Hobbs. “With the TT you can see and touch the music,” Hobbs told the press.
Hobbs: guaranteed a date now “It shows where all the beats are, which gives you complete control of the song in a mix.” Hobbs’ touch screen creations are supposed to be used in a traditional turntable configuration, with two of them connected to a mixer via a line-out. A laptop harbours the MP3 or audio tracks that are then manipulated via the touch screen decks. Hobbs even wrote the damn software: “I have plans to develop it to work with other DJ software,” he exclaimed. “The TT would make an amazing Midi controller, as well as just a standalone unit, so DJs can use them as they wish.” The ATTIGO TT is currently a working prototype, and Scott is looking for manufacturers to partner with.

Dave Dresden – I’ve Been Waiting
Posted on 27. Aug, 2008 by Damian.
Out with his first single since the slip with Josh Gabriel (Gabriel & Dresden). ‘I’ve Been Waiting‘ is a tech electro house track with a remix by Dave himself and DJ Lynnwood. Here’s what Dave Dresden had to say about the breakup from Gabriel & Dresden:
“We both were growing apart as artists. Josh wanted to go in a more tech-ier direction where I’m into making the big vocal anthems with dramatic and emotional changes which we’ve become well known for. I think this can be best exemplified by Josh’s recent solo single “Summit”. We will most likely come together again one day and follow up our debut album, but until then, we’re both going to exercise our musical musings and enjoy the time apart as much as we can.”
I really hope they get back together and continue making those hits they used to.
